Dearest Kathryn,
It has been so long since talking with with you! I do hope your health has improved and that you have gained some weight! You have been so think the times I have seen you.
I have finally been able to trace the whereabouts of the Cherokee translation of the New Testament in which you were interested. Theresa has given it to her daughter, Lois. I have obtained a xerox copy of Matthew and am enclosing it. Also I am sending you a copy of the first portion of a music instruction book which is the only Cherokee material I have. I do hope these are what you wanted. I am anxious to know about the new book that is being published and who the author is so that I may obtain a copy. I am trying to get as much material as I can together. It is so interesting! I only wish I had really absorbed all that Granddaddy and Grandmother were trying to tell me when I was growing up. I remember taking notes by the hours and days - but long ago lost them. I keep wondering how best I can interest our next few generations! It is such a great heritage!
We have one grandson, Brian, who is 2 years 9 months, and hope for another grandchild next March. Bill and Sandra, the parents, are living in Houston. He is a CPA with a bank holding company and doing real well.
Kathy just finished at the University of Texas with a Master of Business Administration this summer. She is now working with Hughes Aircraft in Los Angeles, California, and has a great job. She is in a two year training program and is currently working in economic forecasting. Since her bachelors degree (and real interest) is in economics and government, the job seems to challenge her.
I am still working in the civic affairs of the State. - I guess that's my life. I have organized a statewide association for obtaining opportunities and facilities for gifted and talented students. Thirty-five parishes (counties) are planning to offer special classes for these students in their schools next year, so we have had some success in lighting fires in the direction of helping these special children.
Clarence is in good health and working hard, as usual. He is planning to retire in about 2 1/2 years and we will probably move to Texas at that time. We spent a couple of weeks on his vacation going to Texas and then to California with Kathy to help her get started out there ok. We bought her a small convertible Fiat X19 for her getting about. It is hard to get used to the small foreign cars but you hardly see anything else in California. Clarence said that if anyone had told him six months ago that he would be buying one, he would have known they were crazy! However, that is what she wanted and it seems with the increasing shortage of oil the small cars are most logical. It is a great comfort to us that both Doll and Sam are out there and are helping her get adjusted. - but we do miss knowing she won't be home Thanksgiving, Christmas, spring break and summer! We will just have to travel more to Texas and California!
Do let us know how you are and about Dolly and Kathryn and the rest of the family are. I am sorry it took so long to obtain the material for you.
Dearest love to you and the girls,
Kathryn
