Of Virginia Beach
Dies Monday


VIRGINIA BEACH, Jan. 8 -Ann Kingdon Shields died Monday, January 5, 2004 at her home. She was born September 15, 1926 In Bluefield, WV, a daughter of the late Alva Rite and Arthur F. Kingdon.

   She is survived by her husband, Walter Dunnington Shields of Virginia Beach; her daughter, Ann Stone of Brevard, NC; her brother, Frederick Kingdon of Mullens, WV; her sister, Helen Mays of Bluefield, WV and her grandchildren, Maurine, Elizabeth and John Shields, Alan and Lucie Stone. She was preceded In death by her brothers, Harold and Arthur Ritz Kingdon and her sister, Kathryn Frampton.

   Mrs. Shields attended State Teacher's College (Longwood) and had been associated with various Women's Clubs, Garden Clubs, Junior League, and hospital volunteer activities in Bluefield and Huntington, WV and Farmville and Virginia Beach. For many years she sang in the choir and assisted with altar duty at Galilee Episcopal Church.

   A church service will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in Galilee Episcopal Church by the Rev. Dr. Coleman Tyler.

    The family requests that memorials be made to The Duvall Home for Retarded Children, PO Box 220036, Glenwood, FL 32722.

   H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, Virginia Beach, are handling the arrangements.

Also surviving Mrs. Shields are her grandchildren, Maurine, Elizabeth and John Shields and Alan and Lucie Stone.
