Graveside Service Held Sunday for Mrs. Brumfield, 84
February 4. A graveside service for Mrs. Betty Shields Brumfield, 84, of Farmville, was held Sunday at 2 PM in Westview Cemetry.
Mrs. Brumfield died Friday, January 31, 1997 at her residence in Farmville.
She was born October 16, 1912 in Prince Edward County, a daughter of the late Edward Southard Shields and Lucy Dunnington Shields. She was the widow of Dr. Robert T. Brumfield.
Mrs. Brumfiled attended State Teacher's College (Longwood College), where she was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. She was a devoted member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, a former member of the Longwood Garden Club and was a member of Johns Memorial Episcopal Church, Farmville.
Survivors include her son, Southard Shields Brumfield of Farmville: a brother, Walter D. Shields of Virginia Beach and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lucy Shields Andrews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Southside Community Hospital, the Prince Edward Rescue Squad, Johns Memorial Episcopal Church or Fugua School.
Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
