Some of India's favorite recipes (just realize she rarely followed a recipe, she got her ideas from recipes). One hobby was to read cookbooks and find new ideas for entertaining others.

They were married in Washington DC while Walter was on leave with the Navy. They lived in Farmville, VA and then moved to Rocky Mount, NC. Both are buried in Rocky Mount, NC.

Article in Farmville Herald, April 16, 1937 - Basketball

A few of Kathy's brief memories and opinions.

She loved to knit, but golf was her passion.  She enjoyed playing bridge.  She loved to be a tanned person.  I remember in late winter, she would park cars so she could lay on the asphalt to get her tan.  She did not get skin cancer.  She died of cancer but it was in the liver and pancreas at the age of 59.

My mother was a very good person.  She helped everyone that needed her help.

I have missed my mother for many years.  There is nothing that can replace a mother.  But I really wished she had been alive longer to be the grandmother my children would have loved to have. i do believe she would have been a great, loving grandmother to them.

My parents were a good couple.  They loved each other and enjoyed each other's company. I do not remember a cross word spoken between them about each other.  Yes, I do remember they did fuss with me and complain about situations which were not in our immediate family. She was a very sensitive person especially when it came to someone promising something.  For instance, as I was told by my mother, Kathryn and Dolly got diamond rings when they were 16.  When mother became 16, she was promised Grandmother's big (2nd) diamond when Grandmother died.  About one year before Mother was diagnosed with cancer, my grandmother changed her will to state (I read the will) that my mother would have to pay the  other three sisters 1/4 of the value of the ring and had first choice for the ring.  I personally believe this grief is what caused my mother's cancer.  She was so hurt by this.  She asked me to talk to my grandmother about it.  I did mention it and she said something like, "She did what the others wanted."  My mother died before my grandmother.  I believe Dolly and Kathryn decided that Grandmother should not be told India died because it would hurt her too much.  The day my grandmother died, I found out that the Christmas before, her will was changed and the ring taken out of it and she gave that ring to my Aunt Kathryn.  Knowing how much that broken promise from her parents hurt my mom, this really tore me up so much I could not even go to her funeral.  Later I realized maybe it was right that the ring go from Grandmother, daughter, to granddaughter.  So, I had hoped Kathryn would do the right thing and I would get the ring after her death.  Since I never heard that, I knew it would not happen without a miracle from God.  I did not want the ring because I knew at this point there were so many demonic curses on it and the person who wears it will always feel that.  So, I am free of the hurt that I did not get it. I ache for my mother's pain over the situation though. Now I see that keeping the death of my mother from my grandmother was all part of the plan.  In 1980 (approximately) the ring was valued around $33,000.  I believe the larger the value, the larger the curses that come with it. Thank you God I do not have those curses in my life.  I do not know who wears that ring and I really don't care.  But at Kathryn Sydnor's funeral, I felt a great release from generational curses.

Remember, this is just my feeling and my opinion. Please email your feelings or memories at ksgoebel@yahoo.com.
