Married to Dot Spry Hauss for 55 years, Bill Hauss has gone to Heaven
William Edwin "Bill" Hauss Jr.

CHINA GROVE - William Edwin "Bill" Hauss Jr., 85, of 204 S. Clinton St., died Wednesday, January 16, 2008, at Carolinas Medical Center-Northeast in Concord.
Born May 24, 1922, he was the son of the late Rev. William and Elizabeth Powell Hauss. While growing up in China Grove, he graduated from China Grove High School and later from Kings College, majoring in accounting. Mr. Hauss served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in China Grove, where he sang in the choir for over 70 years.
During his lifetime, he was very instrumental in the China Grove Civitan Club. He was awarded the Foundation Fellow in Civitan, the Civitan of the year award in 1967-68, 69-70, 77-78, and 97-99. He was also recipient of the Little League Award for his involvement in the China Grove area.
He was active in the Rufty-Holmes Senior Center, where he was a member of the singing seniors and computer club. He was also a member of the Barber Shop Quartet in the South Rowan area.
Earlier in life, he worked at Cannon Mills in the lithograph department and also the Jewel Shop as office manager. He worked at Scottish Bank and retired from First Union Bank in China Grove as City Executive for over 30 years. Mr. Hauss was vice president of First Union Corporation in Charlotte, retiring in 1989.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John David Hauss, in 1965.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Spry Hauss, to whom he was married for 55 years; daughters Lee Ann Hauss Bost (Rhyne) of Landis, Carol Hauss Cable (Gene) of Salisbury and William Edwin "Bubba" Hauss III (Carol) of Salisbury; two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Samantha Cable; and numerous cousins.
Visitation and Service: Visitation will be on Saturday from 4-6 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove, with services on Sunday at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in China Grove with Rev. Vance Lowe officiating.

Martha Lynn Sprye Cavedo

CAVEDO, Martha Lynn Sprye, died November 22, 2007. Martha was born
January 7, 1925, in Knoxville, Tenn., the daughter of Flossie and
Walter Sprye. She spent her formative years in High Point, N.C. and
graduated from George Washington High School in Danville, Va. in 1943.
After attending Farmville State Teachers College (Longwood University),
she moved to Alexandria, Va., where she worked with the Army Air
Transport Command at Washington National Airport. After World War II,
Martha worked for American Airlines at Washington National and later
opened the airline's Richmond ticket office in the John Marshall Hotel.
Martha was active over the years as a community volunteer, including
service on the junior and senior boards of the Virginia Home, where she
also served as the residents' librarian. She was also a member of The
Woman's Club, the Tuckahoe Woman's Club and the Country Club of
Virginia, where she enjoyed golf and Mahjongg. Martha was a devoted
wife, mother and dog lover. In recent years, she suffered greatly from
memory loss. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Dr. Frank
Allen "Buck" Cavedo Jr.; sons, F. Allen Cavedo III, Bradley Brent Cavedo, his wife, Pamela Asbell Cavedo; and their sons, Bradley Brent Cavedo Jr. and Robert Walter Cavedo, all of Richmond. Martha was the youngest and last surviving of her siblings: Walter Sprye, Marjorie Park, Johnsie Donovan and Faye Hedgepeth. The family will receive friends at Bliley's Central, 3801 Augusta Ave., Richmond, Va. from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 24 at Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Virginia Home, 1101 Hampton St., Richmond, Va. 23220 or to the Cavedo VMI Band Fund, PO Box 932 Lexington, Va. 24450.
